Summer holidays spent with family provide some of the most wonderful memories as children grow into adulthood and have children of their own. Remembering the bygone days of our own youth, and relating to our kids the fun times we used to have and some of the crazy things we did, is a wonderful experience that has been shared by parents and children since the dawn of creation. I certainly heard my parents' stories and I've told my children mine.
Among all of my holiday memories, some of the best were made in the coastal resort town of Mundesley, in Norfolk. This little community on the North Sea provided several summers of fun for me and my siblings back in the 60s and 70s. I remember endless days on the beach with my brothers and sisters, playing in the sand and then running to the water, as mum and dad looked on in amusement. We would enjoy leisurely meals together as well as other family activities centred on us being a family. One of the things I most appreciate is that my parents didn't feel it necessary to keep us involved in every available activity throughout the day. They allowed us to pick and choose; they allowed us to relax in whatever way we found relaxing. Our annual trips to Mundesley were always special ones that I will cherish.
So I wish the owners of the new Mundesley Holiday Village well. If I can convince my wife after our children are grown and gone, I think I might like to take a holiday out there and see what they've done with the place.
